Cleaning Your Eyelash Extensions: 4 Tips

If you have eyelash extensions, then keeping them clean is quite important. Cleaning your eyelash extensions regularly will not only keep them looking newer and fresher, but it will also help prevent eye infections and keep you from getting dirt in your eyes. Cleaning eyelash extensions can feel a little strange the first few times you do it, but the following tips will help.

Look for an eyelash cleanser that is compatible with extensions.

Not all eyelash cleansers are designed for eyelash extensions. Some are specifically designed for people who wear mascara and want to remove mascara from their natural eyelashes. These eyelash cleansers may work okay on your eyelash extensions, but they also might not. If you want to be sure of your results, look for a cleanser that specifically states, on its label, that it is designed for use with eyelash extensions. If you're having trouble finding one, ask the stylist who applied your eyelash extensions for a recommendation.

Moisten the eyelashes first.

Before you apply the eyelash cleanser to your extensions, you want to moisten them. The easiest way to do this is to apply some warm water to your hands, and then massage that warm water onto your lashes. Don't rub too hard; your goal is just to apply water and moisten the lashes. Once your eyelashes are moist, you can apply the cleanser.

Rub right down to your eyelid.

Sometimes people are afraid to get the eyelash cleanser too close to their eyelids. But actually, the part of the eyelashes that is closest to your eyelid is the part that's most important to clean. So, close your eyes, and get in there with the cleanser. Massage it around gently for a couple of seconds. Eyelash cleansers are designed to be gentle on your eyes, so there's no harm in using them in this way as long as your eyes are closed.

Rinse well.

Don't simply wipe your lashes clean with a cloth. Doing so introduces a lot of friction, which could damage the lashes. It may also not be as effective at removing the cleanser and debris. Instead, with your eyes still closed, you'll want to cup some water in your hands and use it to rinse your lashes. Do this a few times, using lukewarm water, to ensure a good rinse.

With the tips above, you should do a great job of cleansing your eyelash extensions. Good luck!
