Three Must Do's When Battling Lice

Head lice are truly tricky little critters. If you or your child comes down with head lice, it is going to be okay. In fact 6 to 12 million people will suffer from head lice each year. You do not need to freak out or pull all of your hair out. There are ways to get rid of the parasites, but you may have to be a bit patient. Adult lice and their eggs seem to be resilient, and what will kill the adults may not kill the eggs. This article is going to outline three methods of how to get rid of lice.

Call The Doctor

If you think you may be infected with lice because of itching or infection of the scalp or pubic area, call your doctor. They will be able to help you with head lice treatment as soon as they are able to see you. When you meet with your doctor they will make sure that you are in fact infected, and they will give you the right medicine for the job. The prescription medicine to treat lice usually will kill both the adults and the eggs. This is one of the best ways to get rid of lice as quickly as possible.

Use The Product Properly

One of the biggest problems that people run into is that they do not use the product given them properly. This includes prescriptions or over the counter remedies. Most often the remedy will be a shampoo or a salve. Be sure that you leave the shampoo in long enough for the medication to actually work. It will do you no good to feel like you are just washing your hair. Be sure to leave the product on long enough for it to do its job. The salves will also come with a very specific set of instructions, so be sure to follow them very carefully.

Clean Up The House and Treat The Family

Remember that lice are extremely contagious and can hop from family member to family member. They are also well known to hop on pillow cases, clothing, couches, and everywhere in between. In order to truly get rid of all the lice, you need to be sure to clean the home very well, and put these types of things through a thorough cleaning. It is also a good idea to have each member of the family use an over the counter shampoo to be sure to kill all lice in the house.
